This article addresses a word that I’ve been hearing a lot lately: intersectionality. According to this article, intersectionality refers to the act of experiencing two or more types of discrimination at a time. Now, rather unfortunately, this term by itself seems lacking in novelty. However, as this article addresses, intersectionality is occurring within certain sects of the feminist population. In essence, as some women passionately believe in and fight for their rights and to dispel conventional stigmas, they simultaneously think that they deserve this any more than women of other races, ethnicities, sexual preferences, etc.. How can you fight for women’s rights while also believing that those rights don’t apply to EVERY woman? Ultimately this article addresses this concept and addresses the need for equal and total representation within the feminist community.
